Frequently Asked Questions
How do I heal my tattoo?
We always suggest to follow advice of your artist, however in the event you are unsure, our recommendation is as follows;
First Method (wet healing)
1. If cling film was applied by your artist, remove cling film and wash fresh tattoo with warm water and Simply Tattoo Foam Cleanser.
2. Dry your fresh tattoo with paper towel (patting dry) or let air dry. The skin around your new tattoo needs to be thoroughly dry for the film to stick.
3. Using Simply Tattoo Care Aftercare Film, cut the tattoo film to the appropriate size (this size should overlap your tattoo by a minimum of 1cm).
4. Apply the film to your tattoo. We recommend for large tattoos to apply medium size pieces to help contour to your body, rather than larger sheets (ie. use 4 smaller pieces rather than 2 for a medium to large tattoo).
5. If within a 24 hour period your Aftercare Film has retained alot of excess moisture, repeat steps 1-4 and apply a tiny amount of Simply Tattoo Care Balm on the tattoo (remembering to keep the skin outside of the tattoo dry).
6. Simply Tattoo Aftercare Film should be on the tattoo for a total of 5 to 7 days.
7. After removing the film, use Simply Tattoo Foam Cleanser to keep your tattoo clean and Simply Tattoo Care Balm to keep your skin and tattoo hydrated.
Secondary Method (dry healing)
If you have particularly sensitive skin and would prefer to not use Aftercare Film, our suggestions are as follows;
1. Prior to getting your new tattoo, apply Simply Tattoo Care Balm on the area which you will be tattooed to help hydrate the skin for optimal results (we all know dry skin is not a good time!).
2. Keep your tattoo clean with Simply Tattoo Care Foam Wash for the first 2-3 days without applying any balm.
3. Now your tattoo is ready for Simply Tattoo Care Balm. Apply a small amount of balm to your tattoo twice daily, until your tattoo is healed (and beyond).
Important Notes
- Aftercare films can sometimes leave a small amount of sticky residue. Its important to not forcefully scrub this off as it may damage the tattoo. Any residue will come off with normal washing in the next couple of showers.
- Some persons with sensitive skin may have adverse reaction to the film adhesive and may cause irritation. If this is the case, you may wish to remove the film or keep it on depending on the severity of irritation (healing a tattoo versus healing irritated skin is what you may weigh up).
- Its common occurrence for tattoos to flake and peel, normally up to 15 days (or thereabouts). Even after the tattoo is healed, Simply Tattoo Balm can be used to continue seeing your tattoo at its brightest.
